Our Year 1 learning has had lots of links to Interfaith Week, Building bridges and Internet Safety.

Finding out about the theme for Interfaith Week this week has helped our class make as many connections to the theme 'Breaking down barriers and building bridges.' Our responses ranged from 'It's like something good is going to happen,' to 'people can struggle so they can break down barriers.' Our focus for Interfaith week was learning about the Jewish Faith. Handling all sorts of artefacts enabled us to become interested and intrigued to ask lots of questions about the Jewish faith. We learnt all about the Special book, the Torah and the Star of David. We then drew images of the key artefacts. As we worked together, we created a bridge displaying all our images and thought carefully about what people from different faiths may say to each other. We really enjoyed using figures to act out what they might say too. In Literacy we followed this up by writing sentences all about the Jewish Holy Book, the Torah. We were surprised to find out that the Torah scroll can be as long as a football pitch.

In Power Maths we have continued to use different ways to add, and I can really see our confidence developing each. We have been answering questions using a 10 frame to help us. On Friday we investigated words for our next Maths topic — subtraction. We found out that Power Maths will broaden our experiences of using 10 frames and part- whole models even further when we work on subtracting and taking away.

Mrs Swan now teaches Music and RE on Monday afternoon. This week we were set a group task to set the table for the Tiger who came to tea. This was the first of many team games that we are going to do in PE. We followed instructions and listened carefully to everyone's ideas. By the end of the activity the table was set for a tea party. In Music our time was spent practising a song linked to having Faith, our focus in RE.

Mrs Pilato (Mrs P) has been very busy teaching Science in Year 1 this week. We have learnt all about our bodies, our senses and ways to sort different animals.

Learning about internet safety has given us lots of opportunities to help each other, and at the same time opportunities to ask for help and not give up. Thank you for working hard to think about the messages of staying safe online. We learnt about how to share kindness online by navigating a character through Kind Kingdom on Interland. Mr Dale also set us a challenge to think about our favourite things to do online.

We have had lots of interesting chats this week. I wonder what might get us thinking next week.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend,
Mrs Pointon
