In Year 1 this week we had a parcel delivered to school and the message on the outside read.... Do not open until it is day 5 on your advent calendar. To begin with we thought about what might be inside. We used our best acting and incorporated wow words to describe what might be inside. Once we had tried to guess what was inside we all got to know our special toys. When we were in a circle, we explained why they were special to us. Our language was fantastic, we used 'because,' 'also' and the reason why... to help us explain.

We carefully opened the box to reveal a new story called the Naughty bus. We realised that the bus was just as special as all the toys we had brought in and that got us thinking about what the Naughty bus was like.

Shapes have been a big part of our Maths learning this week in Year 1. It was great to hear new maths vocabulary like face, corner and edge as we described different 3D shapes. Mrs P helped us to make 2D shape pictures, and what a wonderful job you did. We have also been Maths busy brains to work out add and takeaway questions all by ourselves and problems with shapes and pictures. We call these quizzes in Year 1.

In the afternoons we have been working hard on our Christmas Nativity celebration and we have found out about our Year 1 parts. We are actors in the story whilst the Y2 and Y3 children narrate.

Our focus in History this year is to learn more about famous women from today and in the past. Today we learnt about Rosa Parks and we learnt that she lived in America. One day she felt very strongly that she shouldn't give up her seat on a bus journey. We chose words to describe Rosa and we said she was very brave and she stood up for what she believed in.

In class we have an advent challenge to say Thank you each day. I wonder who you might say thank you to over the weekend?

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Pointon
