This week in year 1 we celebrated World Maths Day by getting involved with World Education Games online. We were very excited to see our names on the school leadership board but with 5 million children playing across the world, we couldn't believe on the first day to see our very own Charley in year 1 appear on the world 'hall of fame' for science. Fantastic! Our hard work paid off over the three days and along with lots of success within school, year 1 finished off in 1st place in the UK and 12th in the world for literacy. This is amazing!! Well done to year 1. You have made me very proud. You can keep playing on the maths games until 31st October and don't forget to print off any certificates you have achieved.

Our maths challenge to celebrate World Maths Day was to use one piece of paper and make it as long as possible. The children were allowed one piece of A4 paper, scissors and glue and then were left to brainstorm and investigate! The results were fantastic with one pair managing to make their paper the length of the corridor from year 1 to Mrs Casserley's office. Great team work.

In literacy, we have continued to write our own stories and will be becoming authors like 'Julia Donaldson' next week and making the stories into books. Today, we wrote about our trip to the library in our 'big' books, using time words such as first, next, then, after and finally.

We had a visit from PC Nick today to talk about being safe around Hallowe'en and Bonfire night. The children listened well and asked PC Nick lots of questions.

This week's super learners wearing our Superhero costumes are Ewan, Layla and Harriet. Well done Superheroes!
