Happy New Year, year one! This is not the way we wanted to start our new year but everyone has...
Year 1 News
What a week in Year 1! We led our first Class Worship to the rest of our school family on Thursday. We shared our Year 1 message of Peace and thought about what Peace might mean to us. We certainly had lots of independent voices, acting and singing; thank you Year 1 for leading the worship in such a beautiful and enthusiastic way.
In Literacy we have been using some of our time to practise our worship so our afternoons have been led by Literacy activities. On Tuesday we talked to eachother with kindness and thought about words to describe eachother. We 'chose respect' (the theme for Anti Bullying Week), when we described other members of Year 1. Wise, kind, thoughtful and awesome are just a few examples. We then described what makes a good friend and used our word choices to practise our handwriting. We created a huge paper chain for Miss McCurrie.
Our Numeracy focus has been on taking away on numberlines. We have counted back and used lots of strategies to try and check our numberlines match our number sentence. We like drawing answer boxes too. When we drew our own numberlines, I was very impressed to see some that recorded a counting in 2s sequence.
Our afternoons have been focused around the theme of choosing respect for Anti Bullying Week. We read a lovely story which helped us to think about how we value each other, just as we do when we value all of God's children. We also talked about what bullying is and who we can talk to to share our own worries.
We also followed up our Science work to write about which material we choose for our Discovery Dog last week and we worked hard to make links to new science words. This was a great way to remember our learning over the past few weeks.
Our new topic in History has been the Great Fire of London. We now know what London was like in 1666, and this afternoon we have created a house to represent a Tudor house of the time. We are looking forward to visiting more Tudor houses when we visit Nantwich on our class visit. Did you know that there was a Great Fire of Nantwich? I can't wait to find out more with you next week.
Today we have celebrated Children in Need and we enjoyed taking part in all of the activities. Our spotty clothes and pudsey ears all looked great and we were able to talk about how Children in Need is such an important charity.
Have a super weekend,
Mrs Pointon
