Last week, year 1 started the day with book club. Throughout the week, the children read with an adult in a group, listened to a story on the listening centre and worked on their recognition of tricky words, including wearing special sunglasses to 'Read the Room'! Mrs Parker and I will be recording in reading diaries once your child has been read with. Please continue to record once your child has read to help us with book change and to monitor reading progress.

In literacy, we read our class story 'The Day I Lost My Superpowers'. The boy gets up to lots of superhero adventures which inspired us to write our own. We thought about what superpowers we have and what superpowers our mums have, like the mum in the story. Her superpower is making the little boy feel better. Children, what superpower did you write about? What is your mum's superpower?

In numeracy, we were learning about 2D shapes and their properties. Lots of you told me you enjoyed your MyMaths homework on the computer. Well done. Please look out for next week's task linked to next week's numeracy learning.

In our Design and Technology lessons, we finished our finger puppet projects and they look fantastic. The children have drawn round templates and cut out the shapes, used a running stitch to sew the back and front together and thought about what details their superhero puppet needed.

In our Computing lessons, we used the PicCollage app to make collages of our classroom, taking pictures and adding backgrounds and text to the collages. They are very impressive. If you want to download this app to your tablet at home, search PicCollage (it's free) in your App Store. We will be learning to do more using this app as the term goes on.
