A busy week in year 1 once again!

In literacy the children have been reading poems, listening out for and recognising rhyming words. The children then wrote their own poems based on the poem 'One Two at the Zoo' following the rhyming pattern of the poem. The children then performed this poem today outside. I will try to upload the video over the weekend.

In numeracy, the children have been learning to measure length using non standard measurement, such as cubes, counters and bead strings. Today the children completed a length challenge. They were given one piece of A4 paper, some scissors and glue and worked with a partner to make the piece of paper the longest in length they could. The pictures show the results! Well done to Louis and Caleb who managed to make their paper into a strip from one end of the carpet to the other. All the children then joined their paper together to try to make the length of the playground. What great team work.

We hope the bird feeders made it home safe and sound. The children thought about what food the birds would like to eat in their D&T lesson and then made the feeders with the ingredients. Please let us know if you see any birds enjoying the feast!

In art we have been colour mixing ready for painting Elmer the elephant, using only primary colours. Children, can you show off your learning and tell your parents what happened when the colours were mixed together?

In science we have started our learning about the weather, recording and observing and investigating how clouds work. In ICT/RE, we have been learning to create digital content using the PuppetPals app on the ipad, furthering our learning about the story of the Lost Son.
