Year 1 News
Our Year 1 learning this week has enabled us to shine as super writers and halving detectives, and to learn all about the United Kingdom.
In Literacy we have been thinking about Erin, the main character in the story, The Secret of Black Rock. We have been imagining what she might say once she had discovered the secret. We had to try very hard because in the story we read that 'Erin tried to explain how Black Rock had saved her, but no one would listen properly. ' It has been great to see the 'banana' phones making another appearance in Year 1, and as we called, we thought about what we could tell someone about the Black Rock. We loved listening to each other's conversations and then we set about writing them into sentences.
In Maths we have been learning all about halving shapes and numbers. Firstly we folded all sorts of shapes, then we coloured in one half in lots of different ways. Today we have played a quiz, followed by a game to find one half with numicon shapes.
In the afternoons, we have learnt more and more about compasses, North East South West, and the United Kingdom. We have been asking lots of interesting questions too. We created a carpet full of compasses, had the chance to make our own Union Jack flags and we looked at clues to find out more about Scotland today. It was all rounded off with a piece of shortbread, and this was well deserved Year 1.
As a treat here is the Year 1 Royal family who would like to say hello!
Have a lovely weekend.
