Year 1: Move over Gordon Ramsey...

Gordon Ramsey will have to move over, because there are 28 new chefs in town!

This week Year 1 have been busy concocting a yummy and healthy lunch for Mr. Grinling. On Monday we got a letter from Mr. G saying that he thought he was getting too fat! So we got to work straight away on making him a very healthy recipe. We decided to make him fajitas. We firstly had to decide what equipment and what ingredients we would need to include in our recipe. We worked in groups to decide what we would need and what we wouldn't need! We then wrote down our equipment and ingredients in our very posh study work recipe books! We then had to think about the order of our recipe. Children worked in groups to figure out which was the best way to make our healthy fajitas. Once we had all decided then we added this into our study work cook books. We then had a beautiful recipe book that we could use to make Mr. G the healthy meal. We all had a special cooking job; from the pepper team to the onion choppers we were a great team! We learned lots of new techniques like the bridge cut and also important food safety/hygiene tips along the way! We finally got to taste our yummy fajitas and I can't wait to see what Mr. G thinks of them! Well done Year 1!

In English we did lots of practise on capital letters and full stops. We consolidated our knowledge of where we use capital letters and we used a counting crayon to remind us to do our full stops, super work guys!

In Maths we finished our unit on addition and subtraction. We continued using different methods like our fingers, numicon and drawings. You were brilliant this week in Maths! We even went out into the sun on Friday and created our very own nature number sentences.

In Geography the children were working away on a study work page. It is looking very colourful and creative, but we will keep it top secret until the study work books are revealed! *Clue* There is a lot of blue and a little bit of green!

We also watched KS2's Sports Day and cheered on our house colours/brothers and sisters. It was a beautiful and sunny day, we loved being out in the sunshine! We also had a very apt sun safety talk from PC Nick. he came in to tell us all about sun safety and he was impressed that we knew so much about water safety through our lifeguard talk, it made Mr Dale very proud!

Have a super half term and I can't wait to hear all of your stories when you come back (and i'm sure there will be lots).

Mr Dale
