Year 1 London Topic Day!

Home » News » Year 1 London Topic Day!

What a brilliant day we have had in Year 1! Our very first topic day together was so much fun. We've played games, been on a real naughty bus and ate LOTS of food, we were completely stuffed!

Our day started with everybody coming into the classroom and showing off their super costumes! We had queens, kings, Queens Guards, buses and even a Big Ben! We loved seeing each others costumes, they were so funny!

We then played some games, which were really funny! We played pin the wheels on the bus and pin the clock on the Big Ben, we had to do this blindfolded, this was very funny! We also had a London Lego landmark building competition, we had to build London buildings using Lego and have 5 minutes to do so! Even though it was against the clock, children produced some super sculptures, including Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the Shard! After this we had a "cake break" (the first of many) and we loved sharing our cakes and snakes with everybody! They were so yummy!

After break we had a bit of a free choice. Some children played with the Lego and tried to build more London buildings, there was some great building going on! Some children colored in their very own London pictures, they were beautiful! But most of us decided to play with the Brio! Children built mini cities from the track and trains and even made their versions of Tower Bridge from the bridges, it was like a mini London right on our carpet!

After lunch we had a bit of a surprise! We had a letter from the Naughty Bus, it said that he had invited another Naughty Bus to come and visit, but this one was a bit bigger than him! A huge red double decker bus arrived on our car park! So we got our coats on and headed out to meet him! He didn't talk much! We got to go inside and look around the bus, we loved it!

I think our crazy day was summed up when we played musical "Queens Guard" statues and George suggested the Elvis song "Bleeding Love" to dance to! We all had a boogie and everybody managed to stay as still as a Queens Solider outside Buckingham Palace when it stopped!

Finally after ANOTHER "cake break" we settled down to watch the Lego Movie, what a great day we have had!

I've loved how much effort everybody has gone to for our very first topic day together, so a big thank you to all the parents involved!

Have a lovely week,

Mr Dale

P.S I will hand out cake tins/containers tomorrow
