This week Year 1 have gone back in time to 1666. We have started our topic learning on the Great Fire of London, and what fun we have had! We began by comparing pictures from 1666 and modern day London. Once we found out that the fire started in a bakery in Pudding Lane, we created a new role play area in our classroom. We learnt about the houses in London in 1666, created our own artwork and thought carefully about how they made bread in 1666 as we made our own salt dough loaves. If you walk past our classroom you may have heard us singing London's burning, London's burning.

In Maths we have explored the more than > and less than < signs with the help of Charlie the crocodile. Counting in 10s has been another focus for our learning. Counting forwards, backwards, writing the multiples of 10 and investigating our number bonds to 100 have kept us very busy! Our photos show how we are learning to draw our number bonds to 100 in bars as a bar model.

We were excited to find out that the author of the Naughty bus has written another story and the front cover is just fascinating. We saw the cover of the story Major Glad Major Dizzy and then predicted what the story could be about. Our ideas ranged from writing about the characters we saw, to thinking where the setting could be. As we read the start of the story we realised that there is lots of interesting names so we explored how to write names with capital letters and created lists with lovely handwriting.

The countdown to the Year 1 Natvity has begun by getting to know our songs with Mrs Swan and sharing the beautiful story which our play is based on.

There has been lots of special and memorable moments in class this week, thank you Year 1.
