Percentages, percentages, percentages! In Maths, our learning moved on to percentages where we looked at the relationship between them, and decimals and fractions. We used pictures, calculations, fortune tellers and a quiz to consolidate our learning. We will continue our investigations next week.

In English this week, we have delved into the world of etymology — finding and understanding the meaning of words within text. Our next piece of writing will be a description of the Netherworld from our class book, Exodus. We have looked at snippets of text from different books: Goblins, Reckless, Urn Burial and Coming to England. From these pieces we have treasure hunted words that we would like to use in our writing. Similes and metaphors have also been on our hunt, our favourite being, "like lice from a beggar's beard." We will begin our descriptive write next week.

During book club, our focus has been on an email. This has been our shared read, followed by independent questions to answer and a guided group discussion.

This week we continued with our Biology unit — the circulatory system. We have completed our watercolours, ready to label. We have also used our computing time this week to research the heart, blood vessels and blood. Our research will continue next week as we prepare a poster to present to our class.

After interviewing Mrs Hughes, our school bursar, we completed one of our RE units. We were able to ask her different questions about her faith. Mrs Hughes tried her very best to answer them all, some of which were tricky to answer fully. We have now begun our next unit with a class discussion on what would be in our perfect world. You will be pleased to know that many of your children said they would not choose social media to be a part of it! Our debating skills came into action as we discussed at length our reasons behind our choice. Well done Y6, I really enjoyed listening to your points of view.

As part of our formal Friday, we completed a reading SAT style paper today. We will review it next week.

New homework has been set and will be reviewed next Friday.
Have a brilliant weekend.

Mrs B.
