Y6 weekly news
A super week in Y6.
After resting over the weekend, we began our week with Maths. This week we have continued to investigate place value. We rounded whole and decimal numbers and worked with negative numbers too. Before we move on to a new unit we will consolidate our negative numbers knowledge.
This week In Book Club we have focused on language devices, in particular the use of dialect in writing. Our novel is filled with dialect from different parts of the country and this has allowed us to delve into it with a greater understanding.
In English we have begun our recount writing using our life experiences of PGL. We have created a useful timeline and a class word bank we can all dip into. We have analysed different recounts looking at their features and useful paragraph starters. Next week we will write our first draft and edit to improve.
Our spelling focus this week has been the able and ible suffix. We will finish this pattern off next week and move onto a new suffix.
We continued with our History topic this week. Our classroom was turned into a Morrison shelter as we listened out for the air raid siren and quickly made our way to safety. We considered what it must have been like to be in a real shelter, and from our shelter listened to Neville Chamberlain's speech to the country, announcing that we were at war! Our computing time was used to research different areas of why world war two started. We found out many facts. We even listened to the German air raid siren! Thank you so much for the artefacts and books you have brought into school. Keep them coming.
We completed our multi media Blitz artwork this week. They will now hang in our classroom with pride.
In Music this week we listened to a track by the Jacksons called I'll Be There. We are beginning to learn this song and understand the meaning behind its lyrics.
PE this week focused on hockey skills.
We finished our week with formal Friday. We completed a spelling test and an arithmetic paper, and we marked our homework and a book club task too. New homework has been set. There is no Mymaths homework this week as I have included a comprehension reading task.
We would like to invite you to a Y6 class worship on Thursday. Y6 will be the first class to deliver this and we would love you to attend. It will take place in the hall at 2.45pm.
Have a wonderful weekend Y6, you have been busy bees and I am proud of you.
