Y6 Weekly News
A busy week in year 6 this week.
We have reviewed all six practice SAT papers and discussed the content too. We have spent time during our Maths lessons reviewing all three papers and focused on any questions that we have found difficult. Reasoning is an area we will continue to work on.
In English we have researched facts on global warming and considered the impact of this topic on Earth. We have used articles to find out about the effect it has on life on Earth and the ways we can reduce them. We have listened to model letters and discussed our feelings and thought about the voice we would like our letters to be written in. We will continue these next week.
During our Spag lessons this week we have reviewed our SAT grammar and spelling papers. We have also reviewed our online homework.
In book club this week we have revisited our reading SAT paper. This included three different pieces of text and we considered each answer carefully. We have talked through different ways of tackling these papers and thought about the silly mistakes we can make.
In Geography we have used our new knowledge on coastlines to create our own models. We will put the final touches to them next week, including correct labels.
Interfaith in year 6 this week took on a sporting feel. First, we discussed the different aspects of faiths and referred back to our British Values and how tolerance and mutual respect linked well to them. We then chose a sporting personality from past or present, and spent some time researching interesting facts about their faith. Our research was then carefully planned into a leaflet and compiled into a class book. We thoroughly enjoyed our week as we considered all the different outcomes.
We have also celebrated Internet Safety this week as we logged into Interland, an online safety site. Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed visiting the different lands and considering each question carefully before answering. I know this is a site they will enjoy using at home too.
We ended our week with a spelling and arithmetic test, and new homework has been set.
Just a reminder about NSPCC Number Day on Monday 11th February. We will be taking part in Dress up for Digits and pupils are invited to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt or even a onesie!). To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for a suggested donation of £1, and we'd love everyone in school to take part in this special event.
Have a super weekend.
