A busy time in Year 6.

We completed our addition and subtraction unit this week by tackling different reasoning problems. Trying to reach a hundred by combining different numbers challenged our resilience. We finished our unit off with an assessment and we are now ready to move onto our multiplication and division unit.

In English we looked at different versions of our letters and edited them together. We used these skills to fully edit our own. We are working on using our commas accurately and beginning sentences in different ways. Our pieces are now ready for us to share with Mrs Chesters.

This week in Book Club we have focused on finding synonyms from a piece of persuasive text by using a dictionary or a thesaurus. The language used in this holiday brochure really tested our skills.

We continued our Geography unit this week as we learnt about propaganda posters and the features used in them. We looked at primary and secondary sources and used these as a stimulus to create our own. There are some very imaginative artwork all delivering the correct message.

In Computing this week, we linked our History topic as we researched facts about the Battle of Britain. We answered questions like: did women fly Spitfires and if so why? Why were the RAF pilots referred to as "The Few" and who gave them this name? Thank you to Aiden for sharing your model WW2 planes and to Ben and George for bringing in your coins. We have also continued to use nest loops to activate different algorithms when completing the Code Studio programme.

We are looking forward to our class visit on Tuesday. Thank you so much for receiving news of this visit and organising your reply slips so quickly. I know it has been short notice, but I am certain it will be worthwhile.

We have completed our PGL artwork this week ready to go into our studywork books.

In RE this week we defined what we thought the word 'justice' meant and compared it to our definition of forgiveness. We listened to two stories from different religions and asked ourselves if the punishment in each story was fair? Was it reasonable? Was it just? We then went onto discuss different scenarios and who should be forgiven, and should there be justice?

PE this week focused on ball skills.

We finished our week with formal Friday. We completed a spelling test; times tables test and an arithmetic paper and marked all. We have also marked all homework including our comprehension task. New homework has been set.

We have begun practising the new starters worship with our reception buddies this week. We are feeling extremely proud of them all and can't wait to welcome them into our Church family.

It has been lovely meeting you all this week as we came together for parents evenings. Many thanks for completing Maths and English comments they will now be placed into your child's books.
