Y6 Weekly News

A huge well done to year 6 this week as we completed our first full set of practice SAT papers. You have truly been super troopers by showing resilience and determination to get to the end of each paper within the time allocated. I am so proud of you all. We will spend time next week working through these papers and using our knowledge to problem solve where necessary.

In English we have completed our descriptive pieces and we have now moved on to non-chronological letter writing. We are at present researching global warming and what this might mean to our planet. Our letters will be written from Earth as she tries to explain how humans are destroying her. We will investigate this issue further next week and then discuss the voice we would like to write our letters in.

During our Spag lessons this week we have tackled active and passive voice. We have looked at the subject, object and verbs in sentences and how they can be ordered to change from active to passive. Our Spag song has helped with this too.

In book club this week we have considered the question, should fizzy drinks be banned? This piece of argument / persuasive text will be useful when we come to use persuasive devices in our letters.

We have had the joy of welcoming Mrs Cliffe (Brodie's mum) into class this week as she shared her knowledge on birds of prey. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to all the information she had prepared for us, and of course the quiz at the end of the session was a huge hit.

In science this week we have been investigating Evolution and the works of Charles Darwin. We have considered habitats and the way different animals have evolved in order to survive. We will continue with this project next week.

In Geography we have investigated how different features of coastlines are formed. We now know how headlands, bays, spits, stacks, arches and stumps are formed. We will continue building our knowledge next week.

Another impressive class worship delivered today by year 6. Well done. Mrs Chesters is quite right when she said the message was clear and the singing was very moving. You created a beautiful worship around our RE Light Project — Peace. The hall was so quiet as everyone focused on your message. Fabulous job.

We ended our week with a spelling test and spag check as we used some morning time to prepare for our class worship. New homework has been set.

Have a brilliant weekend, you all deserve it.

Mrs B
