A fun-filled week in Y6.

In Maths this week, we continued to investigate place value in rounding and negative numbers. We have used our knowledge to calculate problems understanding the value of each integer. Our challenge in times tables has been set (if we choose to accept it) against Y5. We will battle them using the Times Tables Rock Star forum. Come on Y6!

In English this week we have edited our storm descriptions whilst thinking about the reader. We have also begun a new English unit — recounts. We used our PGL experiences to create a timeline and useful word bank. We will continue with this piece next week.

This week In Book Club we have focused on words that sound the same but are spelt differently (homographs). We have used the context of a sentence to choose the correct word. This week's SPaG homework will support this learning as it is based on synonyms and antonyms.

We have begun our Geography unit this week on coastal erosion. We have used different images to match to different coastal towns by focusing on human and physical features. Video footage has supported our learning.

In RE this week, we have listened to Morning Mood by Edvard Grieg to introduce us to our unit — Why is Jesus, Light of the World, good for Christians? Images of light helped us to think about why this metaphor is in the Bible. Great discussions Y6. Well done. We have begun to practise our Harvest celebration service this week.

Exercise skills were practised in PE this week.

Our Y6 worship today was delivered by confident and organised children. Super job Y6.

Just a quick note to let you know that your children have come home with a Bikeability form to complete and return. This will enable your child to move on to level 2 of this award. I would also like to let you know that our Library is open daily during lunchtimes and your child is able to exchange their reading books during this time.

Please take a look at one of our camp fire songs, watch out for the volume... https://youtu.be/gtlZkqeRqlE

I hope you have a fantastic weekend.
