Y6 News of the Week

Home » News » Y6 News of the Week

We have settled back down after our busy week of Sat's into a much more stress free learning environment.

Our week has seen scientific experiments being completed, artistic talents being shown, historic settlements being created and much more.

We have taken part in many safety sessions during our Safety Week. These have included sessions from outside companies like GIST, Crewe and Nantwich Fire and Safety, Blue Cross and our school nurse.

In class we have considered the importance of hand hygiene. This area of safety fitted in well this week with our scientific investigations on micro-organisms. We considered this by completing small experiments and we will review the results after half term. We have explored different microbes (fungus, bacteria and viruses) and discussed their advantages and disadvantages. We have explored mould and what types of conditions affect its growth. Do you know if acidity affects mould growth? We will be able to answer this question after half term as we review the results of our experiments.

In Art this week we have explored the artist Thomas Gainsborough and considered how he paints landscapes. We particularly focused on his painting, "Mr and Mrs Andrews." We have begun to create our own class version of this painting. We will also go on to create a landscape of our own as we explore Scottish lochs.

We have also focused on Anglo and Saxon settlements this week. We chose, created and named our own settlements and considered what each one must have.

The Ospreys we are following at the moment have four chicks to look after and all are doing well. Rachel McGarry is keeping us up to date as she monitors them on a regular basis. Thank you Rach. We have come to the end of our class text, Sky Hawk and thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the journey of Iris. This story has allowed us to produce some fantastic pieces of writing, so thank you Gill Lewis.

We finished our week off with RE taught by Mrs Whittingham. Discipleship and the story of The Mount has been discussed and explored.

Thank you Y6 for your focus and determination over this half term. There is no holiday homework to complete except to rest, play and have fun. You are all superstars and I am very proud of you.

Have a super half term.

Your teacher
Mrs B
