Y6 News of the Week
And half term is upon us! Where does the time go?
In Maths we focused this week on factors and multiples of numbers. We have used our knowledge to find the highest and lowest common factors and multiples and used these facts to discuss reasoning problems. We will continue with this unit next term as we begin to investigate prime numbers and prime factors.
In English we completed our evacuee letters and used some of our lesson time to publish our PGL recounts and Derek Allen diaries. These will appear in our Autumn Term study-work books.
Our History unit came to life this week as we received a visit from Mr King and his extensive range of WW2 artefacts. What a day we had. Our educational visit began at 9.05am and didn't finish until 3.15pm. We investigated different people from WW2 and unpacked artefacts relating to their lives. We dressed as wartime folk and listened to their stories told by Mr King. They were very moving. We listened to the story of Mr Flowers and his medal winning pigeon told by Mr King in role. We became ARP's with District Warden Victor and tried to carry precious cargo on a stretcher at speed. Please take a look at my YouTube video to get a feel for our day. A huge thankyou to Mr King for bringing our unit to life.
We have spent time this week working on our study-work books ensuring that they are completed with high expectations and inspiring pages. We have several pages in progress and will continue with them after halt term.
We have completed our RE assessment this week by answering the question, "Why is Jesus, Light of the World, good news for Christians?" We will begin our new unit after half term on Incarnation.
In Music this week we spent time practising our WW2 songs.
We finished our week with formal Friday. We reviewed our arithmetic paper and completed a times tables test. We also reviewed our SpaG online activities. There is no new homework set for Y6 over half term. I would like to thank you all for supporting your children during this term in completing all weekly homework. I haven't set new homework as I think a well-earned break is deserved. Well done Y6. I'm very proud of you.
We have enjoyed being part of the Pumpkin Heroes Day today. We came together to light our pumpkins and celebrate God's light and love for everyone in partnership with World Vision.
We welcomed Miss Hughes from Shavington High School into our classroom this week. Miss Hughes is the Head of Y7 and she shared some information about Shavington High, and high schools in general. Children were able to ask questions and understand what a day in Y7 looks like.
We also welcomed PC Nick into school this week. He spent some time talking to children about Bonfire Safety and how to enjoy this day.
Y6, what a super term we have all had. I am so proud of you. You have settled into Y6 and have worked extremely hard. Have a wonderful half term, stay safe and enjoy your family time.
