Y6 Democracy

Home » News » Y6 Democracy

Year 6 are carrying our their own General Election today. Our parties, Tomorrow, Progress, Transform and Vision are campaigning for votes! Policies and their manifesto were shared with voters this morning. Electoral registration took place at morning break, poll cards have been distributed, postal votes cast and the polls open at 12.30. Year 6 are campaigning hard for each of their parties. Results will be shared later after the count.
Good luck!

Under the new curriculum every school has to promote the basic British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs. To ensure young people understand the importance of respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

Our General Election Day has given Year 6 an understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process. Year 4 and 5 have been involved as voters — anyone over the age of 9 was eligible to register to vote. Year 6 presented their policies and took questions from the audience of voters.
