This week we have been instruction writers, YouTubers and shadow puppet creators.

In English this week our focus was all around instructional writing. We recapped what a set of instructions included and used examples to help us. We remembered key parts like the 'what you will need' section, the method and even top tips. We decided to write a set of instructions on how to sew your very own Peter Pan hat. We were brilliant at remembering the sewing techniques from the first week of school and could confidently write these into clear and concise constructions. We even managed to use IMPERATIVE VERBS (BOSSY, BOSSY, BOSSY — make sure you ask the children to sing it to you!). Here's the link if you are desperate to listen to it at home on repeat for the next 5 weeks as I am sure you do! — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oApd0goKJDM — Some of us even managed to use brackets to add extra information in the form of top tips or extra details! Well done! We are going to write these up for our first study work page next week.

In Maths we wrapped up our unit on place value. Everybody worked super hard this week as we tackled the tricky concept of 1, 10 and 100 more or less. We used our knowledge of our hundreds, tens and ones to help us decide which column number would change. We also continued to represent numbers in different ways this week, drawing posters for our wall and also creating our second YouTube video — check us out — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oa_0MJn9dQ -. Can you remember the 4 different ways we can represent a number?

In Book Club this week our text focus mirrored our English learning, instructions! That's right, we had a set of instructions all about a potion that could be used to make it rain! We discussed as a whole class during shared read picking our language like 'larder, curdle and sprinkle'. Throughout the week we then answered questions, played our reading games (if you want to play at home our link is www.y3reading.weebly.com), practised our spelling and handwriting and also have a chance to enjoy a book during quiet read time, well done everybody!

We were very excited to finish our science topic of light and shadow this week as we all brought in our shoe boxes in on Monday (thanks to parents!) — ready for an action packed shadow puppet theatre making session! After discussing why shadows appear and understanding that if light hits something opaque it creates a shadow we got to work experimenting this idea with our theatres and puppets. We used our D&T skills to cut, measure, fold and stick our theatres together. Teamwork was key and everybody was brilliant at working together to create their theatres and shadow puppets. They look great and we can't wait to keep playing with them throughout the term!

We also began our new R.E unit this term looking at the good news and messages that Jesus spoke through various parables. This week we focused on the parable 'The Pharisee and the Tax Collector'. We watched several video versions of the story to really build a picture of the two main characters in our story. We had lots of time for pause and thought whilst we also wrote down words to describe each character and how they were behaving. We will continue with our investigations into the parables deeper message next week.

Throughout the week we have also been very busy practising our Harvest songs ready for our service on October the 4th. We are learning three songs complete with actions and they are sounding beautiful. Year 3 have been superb role models for Y1 and Y2, well done everybody you all make me very proud!

On Friday Mrs Van Russelt went through homework and the children also completed their spelling and times table quizzes!

...And that is that for another week of learning. Everyone has worked super hard yet again, I can't wait to see what next week brings.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr Dale
