Y5 Weekly News

We have had a busy week in Y5 and have enjoyed the sunshine too.

In Maths we have interpreted line graphs using intermediate lines to answer word problems. After watching a skydiver break the sound barrier, we went on to use time facts to calculate and answer questions on rate. Word problems are an area we are working hard on in Y5.

This week In English, we have begun our descriptive write, whilst listening to scary music we worked collaboratively to describe different pictures of demon bears, our word knowledge ended with a round robin battle as we challenged each other to have the best word. Our class novel has inspired our description as our starting and end sentences from our book frame our writing. We are now ready to edit and improve.

During Book Club we have focused on a story, answering different types of questions and discussing where in the text this information came from.

We have continued this week with our Science unit, Living Things and investigated the human life cycle. Thank you very much for all your beautiful photographs they certainly brought our lesson to life. Not all of them were easy to name as children tried to look for similar characteristics to help them with their decisions. Our discussion covered many areas as we put together our life cycles, including the ages of each cycle (old age at 50 according to Y5), life expectancy and even DNA.

We finished our week off with our usual Friday testing, this also included a Geometry assessment this week.

Enjoy your weekend and some lovely weather.
Mrs Burns.
