Welcome back Year 6. We will keep up to date with each other whilst we are still home learning and...
Y5 Weekly News
Another week has zoomed on by in Year 5.
In English we had a week of focusing on speech in our writing. We covered the key components of speech and ensured we applied this to our writing. We use the stimulus of Planet Earth to get our ideas and imagination running wild. We watched the Snakes vs. Iguanas clip on YouTube and thought about how we could add personality and a story to the animals through speech. Children decided on their tone and voice. Children produced some funny, humorous and exciting pieces whilst others went for a more serious and dark tone. Well done, guys.
In Maths we continued our investigations on decimals. We compared, ordered and sorted decimals — linking to our place value knowledge. We were in the library and the hall this week (because of SATS) and we did lots of whiteboard and group work.
In Book Club we focused on different texts including a short story extract and a poem. We thought about what we could infer by just reading a small passage or sentence. Children were great at reading between the lines and using the text to pick out key evidence to support their ideas. Well done.
In the afternoons we have been working hard to ensure our study work is up to date and is the best it can be, well done everybody!
On Tuesday during computing we were introduced to a new game called Prodigy. It's a maths based game that everybody already loves! Remember to keep playing at home!
During P.E we continued to focus on sports day activities to prepare us for the races on Wednesday afternoon.
Next week we will need P.E kits in all week as we will be practising for sports day and competing in actual sports day. Thank you.
Have a brilliant weekend,
Mr Dale
