We had a fantastic day out in Oswestry yesterday, despite the rain, visiting Park Hall Farm and the Old Oswestry Hill Fort as part of our Study focus on the Iron Age.

Maureen taught us all how to spin wool from fleece and then demonstrated a simple way to weave using sticks and wool — a technique that it is believed the Iron Age people may have used. We were hooked from the start and from the short time we spent weaving we were able to make simple wristbands and hair attachments!

We spent time in the roundhouse learning how skilled the Iron Age people were. The house was great at sheltering us from the windy, wet weather outside and inside it was filled with lots of interesting artefacts. It was agreed that Iron Age beds were really comfy!

After lunch, we took a short bus ride to the Old Oswestry Hill Fort. The rain had stopped and we had great fun exploring the site! Katie commented as we left the Hill Fort, "If you sit quietly and think deeply, you really could imagine being here in the Iron Age." I think we'd all agree!
