We have had another successful and busy week in year 1 and you have continued to make me so proud...
Years 5 and 6 were excited to join Mr Hadfield for their first after school session this week. As a...
Another week in Year 3 and we have learnt so much. In maths we have started our unit on fractions...
We had a busy week last week, including our exciting visit on Tuesday.
In literacy, we used the visit to the Iron Age roundhouse to inspire some creative, yet historically-based writing:
This roundhouse once saw...
This roundhouse once heard...
This roundhouse once felt...
This roundhouse smelled...
This roundhouse once tasted...
This roundhouse once remembered...
I was really impressed with the children's writing and a few shared their work with the rest of the school in Friday's worship.
We have targeted our spelling from this week's word-list and looked at strategies and tips to help us spell these more challenging words. There will be an assessment of these words tomorrow.
In maths we have been focusing on multiplication. We have consolidated our prior understanding on multiples (the answer in a times table) and explored common multiples. We have practiced informal multiplication using grid method. Some of the children have worked on TU xU eg 24 x 8, whilst others have succeeded in multiplying TU x TU eg 34 x 48 and some have even been able to multiply with decimals! I will be putting some homework on MyMaths to consolidate the work we have done!
Y5 and 6 worked together on Monday afternoon on our second session of Kiva. The lesson focused on the theme 'in a group' and the children role-played different group experiences and dynamics well. Daniel was particularly good in role as the 'Babbling room-filler'!
On Friday morning, the Childline team returned to run a workshop for Y5 and Y6 separately to focus on 'Keeping Safe'. The children listened and participated well in group discussions and have a clearer understanding of what to do if they have any worries.
PE and Sporting Success
The children's PE lessons are based on developing their ball handling and movement skills in basketball.
Congratulations must go to our Y5 athletes who achieved so well this last week:
Y5 girls were positioned 4th, 11th and 18th and the team was placed 2/7 teams
Y5 boys were positioned 1st, 27th, 37th and 46th (100 boys in race!) and the team were placed 6/10 teams!
A special 'Well done!' to Tyler for coming in 1st! Wow!!
Learning Log Homework
As a class, we came up with a list of ideas for our first Learning Log task. A draft copy and a new Learning Log was sent home with each child on Friday. The final copy will be given out on Monday. The children have 2 weeks to complete their chosen task.
Looking forward to next week:
Miss Moseley joins us on Monday and will be working with the class until 12th December.
French and Music lead Monday afternoon's teaching and learning.
Maths will focus on addition and subtraction strategies.
Literacy will focus on sentence punctuation linked to our history focus.
Earth, Sun and Moon will be the focus for our next unit of work in science.
PE returns to Tuesday, following our visit last Tuesday and the lesson moving to Thursday.
