We have been working hard in year 5 this week.

In Maths this week, we have begun to investigate different methods of subtraction. We have used number lines to find change from different values ranging from £20 to £200.00 and investigated different subtraction patterns. We have also revised the column and expanded methods and used both to solve word problems using subtraction. Our Mymaths homework reflects this learning.

In English this week we have begun to think about our opening paragraphs for our persuasive write. We have thought about our audience and how Maslo Inch (a character from our book) would persuade. We have focused our ideas around the thought of testing and how it should not be abolished in the city of Aramanth. We will go on to edit our opening paragraphs and then continue to develop our reports next week.

This week In Book Club we have read a piece of persuasive text, we have used the advert to answer comprehension questions. Our discussions have focused on what types of questions we are being asked and where we would find the answers.

We have continued with our History unit this week by looking at different pottery designs and using these images to create our own sketches, we have then painted our pots ready to complete with our designs.

In RE this week, we have begun to look at our new unit — How is Christianity a diverse and global faith? We have begun by looking at ourselves and where we come from. Using questions created by our class we are answering them by creating post cards to send to our partner school, Kaiyaba Primary School in Kenya.

Our netball skills were put into practise in PE as we played a game in our teams and of course we have ended our week with our swimming lesson.

In PSHE this week we have taken part in a session run by the NSPCC. We will follow this session up with a workshop next week.

We have completed our spelling test today and then tackled our place value assessment. Due to this assessment we have not completed our times tables or mental maths test. Well done Y5, a busy week has come to an end and you have earned your rest. Have a fantastic weekend.
