Another busy week in Y5.

This week we have continued with our DT project using running, over, back and cross stitch, and we are now at the stage of adding buttons to decorate our patchwork sections. Resilience has definitely been the word of our sessions as threading our needles has often been a challenge but we are beginning to master it.

In Maths this week, we have continued to investigate place value in numbers beyond tens of thousands to numbers with 2 decimal places.

In English this week we have used our word banks to begin our first draft of our tower descriptive write. Our pieces have a mysterious feel to them filled with rich vocabulary. A great job done by all. We will use our editing skills next week to find areas for improvement. We have used this writing to make 3d model towers, ready to be placed on our newly marbled backgrounds.

This week In Book Club we have begun our daily activities, in particular working with a thesaurus and dictionary. We have used a well-known tale to develop rich vocabulary and enjoyed reading different newspapers and magazines. Our Wind Singer story has kept us hooked as the plot develops around the Hath family. We are thoroughly enjoying our end of day read.

In music this week we have begun to learn a rock anthem, Don't Stop Believing by Journey, focusing on the pronunciation of different words. Netball skills were practised in PE with good sportsmanship shown by all in our class. Fantastic.

We finished our week with our Friday timetable and new homework has now been set. Our first swimming lesson has taken place, thank you to Mrs Casserley and Mr Cornes for taking our class.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Mrs B.
