A new half term begins with pedal power.

To begin Maths this term we have recapped the method of grid multiplication and then we have been introduced to the formal method of long multiplication. It has taken a few days for us to get to grips with this new method and we will continue to investigate it further next week.

In English this week, we have begun a new unit of writing, diary writing. We have written our own half-term diaries of events and identified features from different diary extracts. We will now write a diary entry as one of our characters from our book, Kestrel.

We have begun our Geography unit this week working on our knowledge of continents, countries, oceans, longitude, latitude and grid references. We have thoroughly enjoyed locating countries using grid references and our atlases. We will continue with this unit next week.

We have begun our Science unit this week, focusing on the physics strand of Forces. We have investigated gravitational pull and air resistance using different experiments. We have had great fun using the large parachute to feel the difference in airflow as we lay underneath. We also tried our own Galileo Galilei's drop test using different size balls and different shapes of paper. We will continue with this unit next week.

We have taken part in a whole school PSHE visit from PC Nick this week. PC Nick talked to us about bonfire and firework safety. Our PSHE follow up lesson included a story about pets and keeping them safe during this period.

We have continued our French lessons this week, run by Mr Smith from Shavington High School. Our focus was on flags and countries.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Bikeability programme with all of Y5 achieving their level 1 certificate. Level 2 will take place in year 6.

PE this week focused on different athletic events including the javelin. Could I ask for winter PE kits to be included as this week we had some very cold knees! Our week ended with our swimming lesson.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Mrs B.
