Another busy week in year 5.

In Maths we have begun a new unit — Geometry. We have recapped our 2D and 3D shape knowledge by investigating the properties of different shapes. We have named and described polygons and polyhedrons and have found our favourite word of the week, ellipsoid! We have used Venn and Carroll diagrams to sort shapes using different criteria and completed a computer game against the roboidz! We will continue with this unit nest week.

In English we completed our Stone Age newspaper articles. The article covered a news feature on cave art and we presented the information using paragraphs, direct and reported speech, all with a Stone Age feel. Our articles will be published in our study work books.

During book club this week we focused on an advert for a bed and breakfast in Scotland. We looked carefully at the features and continued to develop our skills of reading between the lines.

In spellings this week we have focused on our statutory spellings. We will be tested on these half term spellings next Thursday.

In History this week we have looked at the timeline of Stone Age tools and weapons. We created observational drawings of our chosen items and today used our drawings to make the items from clay. We will now wait for our weapons to bake and next week we will add handles.

On Monday we celebrated InterFaith week with a visit from Anne Angel. We heard two stories of friendship and used our drama skills to act the stories out using freeze frames. Anne was impressed with how quickly Y5 presented their frames.

Our PE lesson continued to focus on teamwork in different sports. Our Samba music lessons have continued.

Thank you very much for all of your Star Lab consent slips. Miss Lake is hoping to receive enough reply slips for this event to go ahead.
