Another great week in Y5.

We have now moved onto recapping our fraction skills in Maths. We have revisited finding equivalent fractions, we have simplified fractions and added and subtracted them too. We are now looking at fractions of amounts, some of these we have found to be tricky. We will continue with this unit next week.

This week in English, we began a new unit on report writing. We are tackling this by researching facts on endangered species and turning them into a script for a television report. We have collated our facts and begun to write our scripts. We will continue with this next week.

This week in Science, we began a new unit, living things and their habitat — how plants reproduce and grow. We have recapped our knowledge from Y3 and begun to add to this by creating a water-coloured painting, ready to label in detail. We thank Mrs Hughes and Mrs Bailey for their help this week. We all created terrariums filled with different layers and plants. They now sit on our tables for us to watch and care for with interest. They look brilliant. Many staff members have commented on how good they look. Well done Y5.

We have used different activities during Book Club this week to investigate the Amazon Rainforest. We have also completed two reading test papers.

Our Rainforest raps are nearly ready for recording. We have used the Stop rap to create a powerful piece.

PE this week has focused on athletics.

This week we have taken part in the HIIT exercise programme and enjoyed watching KS1 sports day.

Have a fab weekend, Mrs B.
