Y3 Weekly News

Home » News » Y3 News

This week in Y3 we have been plant hunters, story-writers and have even become Pointless players!

This week in English we have been writing our own Viking saga stories. We planned our characters and their personalities. We had Ragnars, Thors and obviously lots of Freyas too! We thought about they key components of a Viking saga story, including plot twists and cliff hangers. We planned our writing using planners and on Tuesday got to work writing them. Throughout the week we've been working on each paragraph and have included fronted adverbials, direct speech and description, all the while editing along the way! We will finish our sagas off next week.

In Maths this week we have been looking at measurement once more
This week, turning our attention to perimeter. We measured shapes to figure out their perimeter and listened to a song to help to. It will get stuck in your head for sure! — Link. Fantastic work, Y3! — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU8aWpRd6Qw

In Science this week we started our brand new topic on plants. We recapped our learning from Y1 on plants and remembered all the key parts. We headed outside armed with an iPad and took pictures of different parts of a plant. We used the app Pic Collage to create a picture-board of all our findings. We were then able to create part of our study work page! We will continue our investigations next week!

In Book Club this week we tested our SPaG knowledge. We completed SPaG mats and played Pointless SPaG too! We also parent more time enjoying reading and boosting our reading minutes. This week we managed 5, 140 minutes! Well done!

In R.E this week we continued on from Inter Faith week and explored the Islamic faith. We spent time recapping previous learning and also thought about which God Muslims worship. The answer is of course Allah and we found out that Muslims have 99 names for him. They recite these using a Subha. We used beads of our own to think about a person who is special to us and what different names we could give them. On Friday we had a special visitor come in to teach us more about Islam. Imran came in to our class and spoke about then5 pillars that Muslims obey. It was great to bring a real life expert into our classroom to really bring our learning to life. Thank you to Mrs Taylor for organising such an invaluable learning experience!

On Friday we went through our spellings and it was great to see that children have been working hard to conquer them! We also completed an arithmetic quiz and we absolutely smashed it! Well done, guys!

We've also spent time this week preparing for our Easter Service. Loud words, beautiful singing and smiles have made the Easter Service a fantastic celebration! We can't wait to share it with you!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr Dale
