This week we have been calculators, advent explainers, yoga stars and we even squeezed in a cheeky trip too!

We have been working hard to perfect our nativity service. We have made props, practised lines and have begun to use stage directions too! On Friday we even had a sneaky dress rehearsal, it was fantastic to see the children confidently speaking and singing beautifully! Well done Y1, 2 and 3!

This week we have been very busy on our study work. The children have completed work around Mary Anning, written science explanations and even completed their study work reflections! We are really looking forward to sharing them with the parents on Wednesday!

In English this week we spent some time copying up for study work pages and practising our handwriting! We also spent time looking back at all the punctuation we have used this term! Full stops, commas, question and exclamation marks, apostrophes and speech marks were all discussed! It was amazing to hear the children recapping/remembering all the rules! So much so that we decided to note these down through examples! We now plan to create a punctuation display for next term!

In Maths we looked at calculation methods for addition and subtraction! We thought about ways in which we could answer problems like 6 + 7 and 8 + 9. We also figured out that when we add 9 to a number, it is just like adding 10 but one less! This really sped up our calculation and confidence in answering different problems!

This week we have also started our art unit. We have explored our own imaginations in art and have been able to project our minds onto paper! We used artist, Wassily Kandinsky, to help us with this. Using music we drew shapes, lines and added colour to transfer what we were thinking of during the music onto the page! They were amazing and it was fantastic to hear the children explain what their creations meant! Next week we will create our own Neverland landscapes inspired by other artists that use their imaginations to create beautiful art!

In R.E, we concluded our unit on the Nativity story and Advent. The children completed a beautiful artwork piece all around the advent wreath. They also used all their newly learnt knowledge to explain the different candles and the meaning behind advent. Well done, everyone!

During P.E this week we took part in a yoga session! We started by calming our bodies and spoke about the importance of this! We also thought about why yoga is good for the body! We watched a yoga tutorial and performed all sorts of different positions including "the rock" and the "downward dog".

And of course...this week we went on our trip too! On Wednesday afternoon we headed off the Cheshire College to watch a performance of Peter Pan! It was brilliant to see our class story brought to life through theatre and the children absolutely loved the show! A huge thank you to Mr Cornes, Mrs Cura, Mrs Van Russelt and Mrs Lawlor, who all came along to help us on the trip!

What a busy week but what brilliant learners Y3 have been! Well done everybody!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr Dale
