It has been a busy, fun couple of weeks in year 3...

In English, we've been working very hard on story writing. After our role playing and story mapping, we were keen to get started. We imagined Sherwood was a magical woodland and described the setting as Robin and his friends walked down a winding woodland path. Then the action got started. We found exciting ways to begin our sentences and show that time was passing. We showed the reader how the fight scene took place on the bridge, using powerful verbs and noun phrases. We allowed the characters to retrace their steps back to base camp and ended our stories with a silent, sleepy Sherwood. The resulting tales are very well crafted and will be shared in study work books. Well done year 3 authors. You are certainly using lively brains to write now! We've also written descriptions of Sherwood in winter and 10 things found in Robin Hood's pocket. There were entire night skies, the whisper of trees, the echo of Tuck's laughter and lots more amazing things discovered in there!

In maths, we have been busy understanding fractions and have made super progress with this. We can count up and back in tenths, add fractions and compare them too. Brilliant work!

During afternoons, we've started to learn about our skeleton, bones and muscles. It is fascinating to know how our body moves. We've guessed and drawn how we imagine our skeleton is made up, learned the names of some of the bones, felt our muscles at work and tried to stand, sit, wave and more without using joints and muscles. You can imagine how still we were!

We would also like to thank Cameron's mum and Jake's nana for giving up their time to help us sew our pennants for Design and Technology. You can see some samples in the photos. If there are any parents with an hour to spare, there is still more sewing to do and we'd be very grateful of help!

Other photos show us busy sharing our stories, and some examples of our neatly written, final editions.

Well done year 3. Have a restful weekend Outcasts and don't forget to bring your lively brains to school next week. We have lots more fun learning ahead.
