So...what a couple of weeks! This weeks news is last weeks and this weeks combined after technical...
Y3 Shape, sport, house designs and reports
In year 3 this week:
In maths, we have revisited right angles and used set squares to be sure that angles were exactly 90 degrees. We learnt the terms acute and obtuse and recognised these angles in shapes and even drew shapes according to the properties of their angles! We also learnt the terms parallel and perpendicular and looked for examples of parallel and perpendicular lines in shapes. We also tried to use our bodies to give examples of these lines...as the pictures show. Some of us placed the shapes correctly in Venn diagrams (photo). we also explored the nets of a range of pyramids and, by using a system, we found...yet another pattern! We have decided patterns and systems are the key to lots of maths!
In Literacy, to support later work in design and technology, we researched the homes of the Native American Indians in more detail and worked collaboratively to make extensive notes, which we will later use to create a non-chronological report.
In the afternoons, we considered traditional Native American Indian homes and then designed a modern day alternative which would still allow the tribe to live a traditional lifestyle but used modern materials in its structure. This work will help with our design and technology project too.
This afternoon, we learnt how to say sports in French and read the story 'C'est moi, le champion!'. I wonder whether the boy will become a famous footballer in the end? We played 'Jacques a dit' which is the French version of Simon Says....
Next week, on Tuesday, we will have a design and technology day to build our Native American Indian traditional homes. How exciting! You will need to make sure you have your oversized shirt or T-shirt in school to protect your clothes on this day.
New Mymaths homework is about to be set too and you can complete this homework any time up to next Saturday (13th June).
Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy the Fig Pie wakes in Wybunbury.
