Y3 Pow wow
Well, year 3, you certainly put the WOW in pow wow with all your amazing regalia today! You looked fantastic and made sure our Native American Indian day was really authentic! Well done.
The school field was transported back hundreds of years and became the Plains of North America, complete with buffalo hunters and tepees.
We began with a short play time and then the drum beat called us to begin the celebration.
Next it was time for a short blessing:
"May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know it's beauty all the days of your life."
Then our Native Indian song: Land of the Silver Birch.
Next it was time to begin activities, which included: jewellery making (helped by Mrs Van Russelt and Mrs Smith); traditional Native American Indian games such as the Twig Game and Keeping of the fire, role play, story time and the Big quiz.
We had a picnic on the field and enjoyed some of the tasty Native American themed cakes and treats kindly sent in.
At the end of the day, we took down our tepees as our buffalo were ready to move on and we remembered the Native American words of wisdom "Take only what you need and leave the land as you found it".
A really lovely end of term (and year) celebration; thoroughly enjoyed by all!
Sleep well, Indian braves and cowboys. See you tomorrow.
