Y3 News: Welcome Back!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRz86WYEwHg
Well, what a first week back we have had! Our Summer Term has certainly got of to a flyer with children becoming eco-warriors, Iron Man engineers and fluent French speakers (well, nearly!).
We started the week off with our Big Art project! We listened to the first part of our new story and drew what we though the Iron Man might look like! We then got to work on making a huge Iron Man for our classroom, completely out of recycled materials too! Check him out! We will finish him next week!
In English this week our focus was on the first chapter of the Iron Man. We were on a mission to describe him on top of the cliff! We thought about our language and used word clouds and a website called menti.com to produce 4 different word clouds for different parts of the Iron Man! We then drafted and edited throughout the week to produce wonderful descriptions of the Iron Man just before he plummets off the cliff! Well done, everyone!
In Maths this week our attention was back onto fractions! Equivalent was the word of the week and we thought about what it meant! Throughout our Power Maths sessions we have been discussing how fractions can be equal and worked really hard throughout the week to reason and answer questions. On Friday we compared different fractions and decided if they we greater than, less than or equal to! Well done, guys!
In Science we started our new topic on forces and magnets! We thought about what we already knew, with lots of children having a great knowledge already! We discussed that a force is a push or a pull and gave loads of examples of this! We even played push and pull bingo! We then looked at 'faster and slower' which led us to discuss friction! To investigate friction we used toy cars to test different surfaces. In teams we were able to discuss our fair tests, predict and carry out our investigations. We found out that less friction meant more distance for our cars and the wooden tables came out on top against the other surfaces found in the classroom! We also used our computing session this week to explore forces!
During computing we used the app ARchitect, which is an augmented reality app that mixes the real world with computers! We built towers, discussed gravity and looked at how friction acts on different surfaces like ice! Take a look at our video...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRz86WYEwHg
There was also some fantastic French on display in the Y3 classroom and the hall this week! We talked about greetings and how they can be formal and informal! We played greetings games and learnt some new vocabulary that we are using everyday in the classroom!
Have a fantastic weekend and au revoir until next week!
Mr Dale
P.S Our project is now in full swing and we are still collecting plastic waste....happy hunting over the weekend!
