We had another busy week in year 3.

In literacy, we used poetry to help us with adjectives, verbs and expanded noun phrases and wrote poems called The Bird Chant and Lone Outcast. Some of our work will be showcased in our study work books.

In maths, we halved and doubled numbers using partitioning and Numicon to help. In our outdoor lesson we revised the language of 2d and 3d shapes. We hunted for shapes on the playground and described them to a partner using all our shape vocabulary.

We were visited by Mrs Bailey on Wednesday afternoon. She was dressed in medieval finery and turned our classroom into a medieval hairdressing salon. What a treat. The styles were fabulous. We learned that long hair was a sign of wealth and that, because people could not wash their hair as often in medieval times, fresh flowers may have helped them to smell a little sweeter! Thank you, Mrs Bailey. We really enjoyed visiting your salon very much.

We also used our afternoons to learn all about ways to attack a medieval castle and built castles from Lego, discussing which parts of the castle we wanted to include. There were curtain walls, crenels and merlons, a drawbridge and portcullis, arsenals and watch towers, baileys, courtyards and much more. What a lot we'd learnt.

Next week in numeracy, we will begin work on data handling and with this in mind, new Mymaths homework has been set which will be accessible from Monday until 3rd November.

Mrs Jones (Sammy's mum) will also be visiting to help us make Robin Hood hats using origami!

I can hardly believe we are approaching the end of the first half term. It has flown! There is still lots more work to be done though on our Robin Hood topic and I will soon be sending home details of our Robin Hood celebration day in school to give you plenty of time to prepare! Exciting!!
