This week in year 3...

In English, we have been busy story planning. We role played the first part of a chapter from Kensuke's Kingdom and then used a 'story wave' to write the stages of this part of the story. Then, we worked in partners or small groups to decide how we wanted our own versions to end, completing the story wave. Next, we added more detail to our ideas. Now we are ready to write our story endings in more detail and we'll work on this next week.

In maths, we continued to explore the link between multiplication and division and used practical resources to help, finding families of facts and arrays. We completed lots of activities to reinforce our understanding. Next week, we will complete an assessment before moving on to a new maths topic. New Mymaths homework has been set so that you can do more work on your times tables over the weekend.

In the afternoons, in science, we've learned more about soils, excavated our first set of fossils, and made new imprint fossils which we enjoyed revealing this afternoon.(Our work can be seen in the photos). We can explain clearly how fossils are made. We've set up a soil investigation too.

We've enjoyed P.E and a Sing Fest practice, and the words have been sent home today so that you can read them at home, ready for our visit on Monday.

In R.E., this afternoon, we learned all about another Jewish festival. This time: Purim. We listened to the story of what happened long ago which led to the festival being a time to reflect and remember. We also watched a short video of how Jewish people now celebrate.

Today, we also enjoyed hearing about Rachel's Blue Peter green badge and her work on the Sumatran tiger. Congratulations, Rachel. What a great way to spend your free time! Maybe you could think about work you would like to send to the Blue Peter team to earn yourself a very special green badge too?

Our SPaG work will be marked on Monday afternoon next week so remember your books, even though we are out of school in the morning.

Next week, we have lots to look forward to: Sing Fest at Shavington High School, Mrs Casserley and Mrs Taylor joining us on Tuesday as we enjoy Interfaith week...and, of course, our long awaited trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium.

Have a lovely weekend Year 3. I hope you'll be well rested and ready for a fun-filled week next week.
