This week in Year 3

We have worked on reading assessments in English lessons and children have shown focus and resilience. We have worked very hard on this all year and every child has shown determination to read carefully and answer fully. Children are making super progress in knowing how to answer questions more carefully.

We've also worked on changing the past tense to the present perfect tense and, whilst we still make some errors when we change the verb, we all know how this works. Today, some children had the task of improving my writing. I wasn't very focused when I wrote a set of instructions about how to build a tepee. Children's versions are much better using more appropriate layout and features such as bullet points, improved word choices, and much more detail to help the reader.

In maths, we've targeted areas of measurement which have proved tricky. Some children have measured lengths more carefully and used < and > to compare lengths whilst others have shown they can find efficient ways to add and subtract when faced with 2 step money problems.

We've been busy in afternoons, sketching a very detailed Native American Indian scene, completing study work pages about our shadow investigation, and catching up on other study work.

Tomorrow we will focus on further work about Islam and complete our final times tables test for this half term. There may even be a treat in the afternoon as we've worked so hard over the last few weeks.

There have been lots of lovely sharing moments this week too. Well done to Harvey for swimming and skiing success, to our hockey champs, to Charlie for being voted player of the year, to Olivia for ballet exam recognition, Leon for his fantastic dance success...and to Erin and Harry T for their poetry.

I've sent an email this afternoon regarding tomorrow's planned common exception word assessment. This can be completed if children feel ready, but it can also be completed after half term as I've kept spelling books this week and children may not have had chance to do last minute prep!

Our final half term in Year 3 will be a busy one! We have still got lots of great learning opportunities ahead before the move up to Year 4: iMovies, Native American house building...and of course our Powwow celebration day to name a few. More details of this after half term.

Have a lovely holiday week everyone. Let's hope the sunshine returns. Maybe you could do another Native American sun dance to help it on its way?
