This week in year 3:

We have worked hard in book club, discussing the layout and features of writing to identify text types. Lots of children have become 'free readers' over the last few days. Fantastic progress!

In English, we began the week by role-playing the story of The Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. Next, we were ready to retell the story. We wrote independently and edited independently too. We've made lots of progress with this aspect of our writing. Mrs Charlesworth and Mrs Chesters both said how impressed they were.

Lots of pen licences were awarded on Monday and it is lovely to see children proudly wearing their 'pen licence' badges, and keen to write more.

In maths, some of us worked on place value with Mrs Van Russelt. We're trying very hard to remember our learning so that we can apply it in new ways. Some of us have used our times tables to help us master grid method multiplication. We've been super quick in learning about this method but we do need to keep working on the 3, 4, 6 and 8x tables so that we calculate correctly.

In the afternoons, we've shared our research on Native American Indian tribes confidently, looked more closely at the geography of where our tribes lived, and started our study work pages.

This afternoon we enjoyed our computing lesson with Miss Pennance and we shared a circle time about how important it is to listen to instructions. We discussed how busy our parents can be and how we can help them by doing the simple jobs they ask us to at home first time. We also had to follow some written instructions in class. Well done Cameron. You followed them so well you won a prize!

Yesterday, we bowed and waved as Pre-school and Reception children passed our window on their way to the flagpole to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday and it was lovely to hear the whole school sing Happy Birthday to our monarch in worship. You looked wonderful today dressed in red, white and blue, or wearing your king, princess and even dragon outfits. We did think it was funny that our dragon (Jack) was doing his times tables!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
