Y3 Message in a bottle, magnets and more

Home » News » Y3 Messages, magnets and more

This week in Year 3:

In English, we wrote a 'message in a bottle', pretending to be Michael. We tried to persuade someone who might find our message to help us. We added details such as where our island was by using prepositions, and used conjunctions to say when we disappeared! Noun phrases helped us to describe the island we were on!

Leon said " I enjoyed writing my message in a bottle because it helped me to learn more about writing and I could pretend I was stuck on the island and think about what my message would be."

In maths, some children continued work on place value and others enjoyed revising mental maths skills for calculating additions. We faced stuck challenges and persevered.

Olivia said "I enjoyed doing quick fire sums because it helped me to learn all the different methods I could use to solve one sum! I tried a tricky challenge today. I wanted to take it home to have another go!" Lots of the children have decided to continue their work on this challenge at home.

In science, we explored magnets and completed five different tasks to learn more. Jack said " I liked moving the magnets around because I learned that two north poles together repel and a south and north pole attract. I learned that steel is attracted to a magnet."

We've also presented study work pages, and we all enjoyed the chance to dress up for WORLD BOOK DAY. You can see us in our outfits in the photographs.

Well done everyone. It has been another very busy week!

There's lots to look forward to next week...and we'll discover how Kensuke reacts when he discovers Michael has sent out a message in a bottle in the story too!
