Another brilliant week has passed us by in Year 1. From a brand new artist to a brand new study work page, we have been busy!

In English we watched the "Lighthouse" story on YouTube. We then created a story map to remind us of what happened in the story, we could all talk the story and made the storyline very clear through wonderful pictures. We then wrote up the story in our English books, we were able to clearly retell the story and we all worked very hard!

In Maths we began our addition and subtraction unit. We focussed upon addition and in particular our number bonds to 20. We played game on the IWB, recapped important counting methods like "putting the bigger number in our head" and we even created our Maths study work page. We used the book "One is a Snail and Ten is a Crab". We used the story to count in 10s. I will leave a link to the story being read on YouTube for you to see (. Children, can you remember what 8 was? What about 5? And if 30 is 3 crabs, how many is 80? We also began learning about our new artist this week. We started by putting Andy Goldsworthy's name on the board. The children had lots of interesting guesses about what type of art he does. We were very surprised to find out that he loves to use nature and natural resources for his artwork. We were then amazed when we looked at some of his artwork; asking lots of questions! We then thought that we'd done enough talking for one art lesson we headed outside to the woodland area! We created our own Goldsworthy style pieces using leaves. We then created a fact file and described his artwork. Next week we will create a piece of art that will sit pride of place on our Art study work page!!

Have a brilliant weekend,

Mr Dale
