What is YOUR Talent? - Year 5 News
Welcome back year 5! This week we have been public speakers, fraction multipliers and artists.
In English this week we have been looking at how to write to persuade. We thought about a topic linking to our class story; animals in captivity. We watched a Barack Obama speech to see how it was done! We made sure to note down some key language and style tips from Obama himself. We also looked a numerous examples and picked out persuasive language to help form our pleas. We wrote our arguments, either for or against and tried to include all the persuasive language we had banked over the week. This produced some powerful results, with children arguing for and against the hot topic of animals in captivity. Sorry for the sideways picture!
In Maths it was yet again fractions, fractions, fractions! We started the week by recapping previous learning and it was impressive to see the children's new knowledge and confidence in fractions. Well done guys! We then moved on the multiplying fractions and both the pictorial and mental methods we can use for this! We will start to look to decimals next week.
In R.E we started our new unit on 'Stewardship'. We lookd at the quote "God gives talent and expects us to use it. It's like a muscle, if we use it it gets stronger". We used the lesson as a time to celebrate our own talents and how all of our talents built up make the year 5 class at Wybunbury Delves so special. The children then created their own talent jigsaw piece and later pieced them together to view the whole Wybunbury puzzle.
I hope you have a lovely/hopefully warm weekend,
Mr Dale
