We're back!
Our first week is done — wow — it's gone by so quickly. Can you believe that you're Year 5 now? It's so great to be your teacher again and I have loved our first week back together.
Our classroom was a hive of excitement on the first day as you were eager to learn what our brand-new topic was . . .the Ancient Greeks. We delved straight into learning and enjoyed the first chapter of our book and met our new lead character, Elliot Hooper. We then went through the new rhythms and routines of Year 5 and talked about what we were going to do to make our class great.
On Wednesday, our normal routine began. We started our topic on Place Value in maths and have been learning about the value of digits in numbers up to 10,000. We have been reading, writing and comparing these numbers and using our knowledge to beginning rounding these numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.
During the week, in English, we have been using the first chapters of our book — Who Let The God's Out — to inspire our work. We tried to get inside the mind of Elliot (the lead character) and write a diary entry. You have impressed me with your writing so far, you managed to get into the role of Elliot and conveyed his thoughts and feelings in a great way.
In our afternoons, we started by learning about when in history the Ancient Greek erea was. Did you know, that during the time of the Ancient Greeks, Britain was in the Iron Age? On Wednesday you had your first P.E session of the year with Mrs Jenkins with a lesson on Hockey and you sang Livin' on a Prayer with Miss Holland in music. Towards the end of the week, we began our Big Art project which is creating a giant version of Ancient Greek's famous pots. We finished our week with our first French lesson.
Hope you have a great weekend,
Miss P
