Welcome to Year 6
A warm welcome to Y6, I bet you cannot believe this is your final year at Wybunbury Delves, and what a great year it will be. It is lovely to see you all and I hope you have had a fabulous holiday.
We began our week by delving straight into our new novel, Goodnight Mr Tom. This booked already has the class hooked along with film clips to enhance the story, we can't wait to read on. The first chapter introduced us to the term Evacuation and The Blitz generating much discussion.
Black Saturday has been our first History focus. We have watched film footage of the first day of The Blitz and discussed the impact this must have had on our country. I am thrilled to see the children so engaged with our new topic.
We have also begun one of our Art projects, focusing on a scene from the Blitz and using a technique called wet on wet for the background. We will be continuing with this next week when we move on to the foreground of our picture. Karl Johnson, the silhouette artist with be our inspiration.
In Maths this week we have investigated place value. We began with a recap of previous knowledge and discussed the presentation we would like to use in our books. Finding ways to use mental strategies to solve problems along with addition and subtraction has been the focus of our sessions.
This week In Book Club and English, we have focused on descriptive language, spending time analysing the first chapter of our novel. Our story introduced us to character Sammy — Mr Oakley's dog. Using our own dog photos and the author's description we have begun to think about our own piece of writing. We will continue with this next week.
We finished our week by discussing our Friday timetable and going through our homework books. Children have now received a new reading diary, blue homework book and new Spag book. Homework has been set in their blue books. MyMaths and Spag.com log in details are in all homework books. As we are at PGL for part of next week, I have allocated two weeks to complete it.
An inter-house TT Rockstars competition is underway. It has been set for this weekend and will finish on Tuesday. There will be a further battle set to determine the overall winner. I would like all my children to log on and play for their house team, I know I have some speedy rockstars amongst you, remember every little helps! Your MyMaths log in details will give you access to this site.
We have run our first Y6 Friday worship today. Well done Y6.
PE will be on Tuesday next week.
Finally, I have received thanks from Mrs Taylor in Reception for looking after her children so well. Lunchtimes have run very smoothly and this is all down to you. Thank you.
Only five more sleeps and we will be on our way to PGL. Bring it on!
I hope you have a great weekend.
