Well... Santa had to learn some new skills this year. He and his elves magically sent each class a...
Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to our first week in Year 1.
We have had an incredible week together in Year 1. Our week began by talking about Learning Superheroes and how we can all work together to be the best learners in Year 1. Superheroes then became a theme for lots of our activities.
In Literacy we have been very excited to write in our new Literacy books. We began by talking about our favourite holiday memories, and once we had drawn a picture to help remember all the details, we set about writing our sentences. It was great to celebrate our independent writers and one piece of writing has been photocopied to be displayed on Mrs Chester's wall. This is incredible!
During our Maths time we have been counting as a big team, creating skyscrapers out of numicon and playing games linked to counting collections. I really enjoyed listening to you count up to 100 and then we worked together to count the skyscrapers on an image of London.
I love seeing how our classroom evolves when different artwork is displayed, and this week we have worked together to create Big Art. Once we found out about our story, The One Hundred Decker Bus, we thought about trying to create something with 100 parts. We began creating a paper chain as a class and it was very exciting to see how big it was when we joined all the pieces together.
Within the story the bus driver drives through a city full of skyscrapers. We acted out what skyscrapers look like in a city, and then we created a whole range of buildings. We created windows and painted shapes to look like the real buildings. One building was made from a giant box and is now part of our reading corner.
It has been great to see how many Oliver Jeffers stories have been brought in this week. He is our Year 1 class author. One of his most recent books 'Here we are' is now going home to a Year 1 family to share the beautiful illustrations and words chosen by Oliver Jeffers. I can't wait to read it to you all once it has visited all of your homes.
I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday for another incredible week.
