Welcome to Y6 Superstars

A warm welcome to Y6, I bet you cannot believe this is your final year at Wybunbury Delves, and what a great year it will be. It is lovely to see you all and I hope you have had a fabulous holiday.

We began our week by delving straight into our new novel, Goodnight Mr Tom. This book already has the class hooked along with film clips to enhance the story, we cannot wait to read on. The first chapter introduced us to the term Evacuation and The Blitz generating much discussion.

We have also begun our Big Art project, creating the Battle of Britain on our classroom walls. Your imagination and detailed plans have brought your planes to life as you added camouflaged wings and different insignia symbols.

In Maths this week we have investigated place value. We began with a recap of previous knowledge and discussed the presentation we would like to use in our books. Finding ways to use mental strategies to solve problems along with place value grids have helped us to partition and write numbers up to 10 million. We will continue with this focus next week.

This week In Book Club we have discussed the areas children find the most challenging and what we can do to support this. Evidence questions seem to be high on everyone's minds and will therefore be an area of concentrated focus.

In English this week we have focused on descriptive language, spending time analysing the first chapter of our novel. Our story introduced us to the character Sammy — Mr Oakley's dog. Using the author's description we have begun to think about our own piece of descriptive writing. We will continue with this next week.

The Daily Mile has taken place over the week along with PE, Music and lunch with our buddies. It has been lovely to see the interaction at the lunch table and you have all shown such kindness.

We finished our week by practising our first Y6 worship and then presented it to our school. We introduced ourselves to everyone and let them know which job we were involved in. Well done Y6 you were fab.

Today we discussed the content of homework and introduced a new reading website called year6reading.weebly.com. This interactive site shares books suitable for year 6 children and challenges too. As we are at PGL for part of next week, I have not set any new homework.

I have asked Mrs Lawlor to email out a packing list as I know this has been requested.

Thank you Y6 for a lovely first week, you are all superstars! Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs B.
