Welcome back year 3

Dear year 3 children and parents,

Welcome back. I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and are looking forward to our final term in year 3.

Our new novel is The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks. This is a wonderful story of friendship between a young boy and a (miniature) Native American Indian called Little Bull. The book is filled with humour, adventure and excitement and we have already made a good start; getting to know the main characters and enjoying the beginning of a fantastic adventure .

This week, we went on a nature walk in the school grounds and made sun catchers from the natural treasures we found. They will help us with our exploration of light and shadows in science this term.

In Literacy, we have written adverts about the amazing magic cupboard which the main character, Omri, receives for his birthday at the start of our story. We worked very hard to include all the elements of an advert and sentences with more than one clause.

In maths, we revisited place value and placed numbers on a number line. We also practised rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 and, today, we explored patterns made by times tables on a hundred square.

The new holistic plan overview and newsletter have been sent home this week and they can also be found on the year 3 page of our school website. If any parents feel they have knowledge or skills which can enhance our learning this term, as always, please do get in touch. The children love opportunities to work with you in school!

There are lots of chances to get outdoors and connect with the natural world as our new story unfolds. What a magical way to end our year 3 learning journey!

Have a lovely weekend...and keep an eye on those plastic toys of yours. I do hope they don't get up to any mischief like Little Bull does!
