Welcome Back Year 1
Our first two days have been full of fun and excitement related to our new topic Zoology. It was great to see all of Year 1 arrive at school yesterday with such enthusiasm.
We started off thinking about what Zoology could mean... 'where we look at animals,' a 'type of zoo, ' 'where there are lots of animals.' As a starting point I think this was a great job.
Our Big Art sessions have been wonderful. They are inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau and over the last two days we have created some fantastic tigers. One of our photos shows a class full of friendly tigers! Year 1, you should feel very proud as each tiger looks so realistic and I can tell how hard you have worked on them. We practised our outline first and then used oil pastels drawing straight onto our painted backgrounds. As well as this we have created a jungle scene for our tigers to live in.
We have also come back to school raring to read as many Anthony Browne books as possible. He is our class author this term. In Literacy we have started to read his story Gorilla and we have spent time talking about character feelings and how these are developing in the story.
Alongside all of our learning this week we have been thinking about our growth mindset and the story Giraffes can't dance has really helped us to get to know what a growth mindset is. I have heard lots of children making links already, well done!
I am going to have a big rest this weekend ready for our new week, and our visit to Chester Zoo on Tuesday. I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
