Welcome back Y5

Welcome back, I hope you have all had a fantastic break and thank you for all your lovely Easter good wishes.

This week we began our summer term getting to know our new book, Gorilla Dawn. We have now been introduced to the main characters in our story and already the plot has our imaginations running wild.

We also began our big art project by focusing on the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. Our leaf designs were created using collected leaves and leaf observational drawings. These were then transformed into larger than life leaves and now create a wonderful background to our display.

Maths began this week with our new unit, measurement. We have focused on conversions and will continue with this next week. MyMaths homework reflects this learning.

In English we completed the final stage to our blurb writing. We have now peer marked these pieces using our marking scheme.

During our RE lesson we listened to a piece of music whilst carefully looking at a picture of the crucifixion. Our lesson used the P4C model which enabled the children to discuss their views on this part of Easter. We voted for the question we most wanted to discuss.

Our PE lessons began this week with a reminder to bring in PE kits (fully labelled) and a drink bottle as the weather warms up. Rounders was the focus of our session.

Our spelling focus this week was ei and ie words and how to remember which one to use. We have been introduced again to the rhyme, i before e except after c if the vowel phoneme rhymes with bee. We will continue with this pattern again next week.

I have emailed our summer newsletter and holistic plan to you, please let me know if you are unable to view them.

I am thoroughly looking forward to our final term together and know we will achieve great things.

Mrs B.
