Welcome back to Y6

Home » News » Welcome back to Y6

Welcome back to a busy first week. I hope you have all enjoyed your break.

In Maths, our learning began with common factors and prime numbers. We used this knowledge to simplify fractions and apply these skills to reasoning problems. Fractions will be our focus for most of this term. We also reviewed our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division assessment.

In English this week, we began by planning our story with a twist. Using a book called Eco-World and the Three Little Pigs, we created storyboards to support our writing. Our first paragraph is now complete and we will continue to work on them next week.

During book club, our focus has been on word confusions. We have used different sentences to identify words that have been mixed up.

We began to look at rivers this week using a round robin of activities. Map reading and glossary work has helped to develop our terminology and knowledge of rivers from around the world. We will continue with our investigations next week and of course enjoy our field trip too.

Bikeability has been a large part of our week and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Venturing down into the village I know, was the highlight of your training. Feedback has been positive from the trainers. Well done Y6 you are great role models.

New homework has been set and will be reviewed next Friday.

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe, especially if you are out and about enjoying bonfires. I know PC Nick has given us all some top tips this week during his PSHE visit.
